2. In your view, what are the impacts of Wahabism to Muslim ummah?

The Wahabiyyah has given big impacts to the Muslim ummah and have influenced them in every little matter in their lives.

Among the impacts of Wahabism to Muslim ummah are, firstly, as we may have known, the Quran and the Sunnah are interpreted merely by its literal meaning, according to Wahabiyyah. So, this proves that they are short of sense and narrow-minded. In my opinion, this will lead to narrow-mindedness among Muslim ummah, which is a bad sign to their practice of Islamic teachings.

Secondly, according to Wahabiyyah, any practices must be based on the Quran and the Sunnah. Other than that, it will be considered as bid’ah. This indicates that they are extremist, strict and rigid people. This gives negative impacts to Muslim ummah because it can limit their practice and ability to be flexible in practicing the Islamic teachings.

There will be misconception towards the Muslim ummah where they will receive condescending look from outsiders and will be misunderstood as a community that does not appreciate tolerance.

Besides that, people’s focus will be shifted from discussing about compulsory matter which is the most important and crucial in Islamic teaching itself, to discussing a more critical issue which is not supposed to be discussed publicly. This will contribute to condition when the scholars neglect the responsibility of teaching public on serious and basic matter which is fardu ain such as prayers, fasting, and ablution.

Last but not least, there will be a number of ideologies created which lead to disagreement and hostility between one another. This also will lead them to labelling people as much as they want because they think that they are in the right track and others are not, and just because they are not sharing the same ideologies.

To conclude, in my opinion, the impacts of Wahabism are obviously negative towards the Muslim ummah. So, it is clear that any bad exposure must be avoided for the sake of the betterment of Muslim community.
